Her PhD, underpinned by Self Theory, investigated the prevention of weight gain in children and her subsequent research at the University of Oxford continued to explore the psycho-social aspects of this topic. As a result of her research activities she was asked to be a Specialist Advisor to the House of Commons Health Select Committee’s inquiry into obesity, and is often called upon by the media as an expert in this field.

She also holds two degrees in Biological Sciences, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and has trained health care practitioners and educators in the psychological aspects of weight management.
