Aim: Devising and rolling out key messages

1) What’s it all about?

What’s the story that is going around your business about you, your team and your organisation? Are the official and unofficial messages aligned? And if they aren’t what does this mean? Which story carries more weight? This half day workshop will help you find personal messages which are aligned to your business goals – and make sure that they spread throughout your organisation.

2) Why iOpener?

Coming up with stories is one of the first ways that we persuade others to change their way of thinking. And then to take action. So our workshops and coaching sessions always focus on stories: stories are what we share in all business spheres. We run this workshop at London Business School, Vodafone and Tetra Pak.

3) How?

Each participant will plan, develop and deliver a story of not more than 2 minutes. This can include ‘where we are going’, ‘who I am as a leader’, ‘why our product/service is the best’, ‘how we solved a crisis’ and ‘things will work out fine’. Feedback will be delivered in the group and also given by the facilitator.

4) Participants

A maximum of 4 participants allows us to deliver this in a half day session. Participants should think about a context in which they would like to ensure that a story ‘lives’ after they have left.

5) Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Understand why story telling is important and how it can be used
  • Know how to develop their own messages
  • Think about how to create maximum impact around messaging
  • Develop a personal story to influence key stakeholders

6) Participants cover

  • What the difference between a story and an anecdote?
  • Why stories are useful
  • How stories are used by leaders
  • How to structure a story
  • Personal analysis: what kind of story to tell and how to shape this
  • Language – colour talk and making it memorable
  • Practice and feedback

7) Target group

Everyone who wants to find a new way of spreading messages throughout their or others’ organisations.

8) Duration

This is a half day workshop
